Visiting Indonesia in November — Weather, Green Season & Travel Tips
November is the green season in Bali — the island is at its most lush, prices are well below the July–August peak, and the surf on Bali’s west-facing and southwest-facing coasts is generating some of the year’s best waves. If you are a surfer or a diver, November is a strong month to visit. For beach holidays, it is manageable with the right expectations. Raja Ampat is fully in its prime.

Wet vs Dry: Regional Overview
Bali: November is solidly wet season. Rain falls mainly in the afternoon and evening — mornings are frequently clear. Ubud and the cultural interior are particularly rewarding in the green season. Terraced rice fields are vivid green; waterfalls like Tegenungan and Kanto Lampo run at full volume.
Surf conditions: The southwest swell that drives Uluwatu, Padang Padang, and Bingin picks up through November — the wet season actually enhances the surfing on Bali’s famous Bukit Peninsula breaks. Expert surfers rate October–November highly.
Lombok: Wet season arrives but is less intense than Bali. Rinjani treks are still running in early November before heavy rains become an issue — check trail status with TNGR (tngr.id) before booking.
Raja Ampat: Prime dive season is well underway. November is one of the best months — seas are consistently calm, visibility is high, and manta rays are active at classic cleaning stations.
Flores/Komodo: Seas are building. Komodo crossings are becoming rougher — some speedboat operators reduce services. Liveaboards are more reliable but check conditions with operators.
Events in November
Bali’s dry culinary and arts calendar: November sees several smaller arts markets and gallery exhibitions in Ubud and Sanur as the tourist season quietens. The Sanur Village Festival sometimes takes place in late October or early November — check sanurvillagefestival.com for the current year’s dates.
Deepavali / Diwali (Hindu communities, date varies Nov): Indonesia has a small but established Hindu community beyond Bali. Deepavali is observed quietly in parts of Jakarta and Surabaya with Indian-Indonesian communities. Not a major public spectacle.
Christmas preparation (late Nov): Christian-majority areas including Flores and North Sulawesi begin decoration and preparation. If you are in Manado or Labuan Bajo in late November, there is a festive atmosphere building.
No major public holidays: November has fewer public holidays than other months, so domestic travel pressure is low. This contributes to lower prices.
