The Bali Arts Festival — Pesta Kesenian Bali — runs for the entire month at Taman Budaya in Denpasar, showcasing traditional dance, music, and crafts from across the island. Prices rise compared to May but July is higher still, making June a useful sweet spot. North Sulawesi is entering its best dive window.

Wet vs Dry: Regional Overview

Bali and Lombok: Dry season is fully established. Expect mostly clear skies with very occasional brief showers. The southeast trade winds (angin kering) start to blow in June — they keep temperatures comfortable but create swells on the south coast that are ideal for surfing.

Java: Excellent across the board. Yogyakarta, Borobudur, Bromo, and Ijen are all at their most accessible. Ijen Crater’s blue flame is best viewed in dry season when paths are stable.

Raja Ampat: Avoid — seas are rough and visibility is poor. May through September is the off-season for Raja Ampat dive tourism.

North Sulawesi (Bunaken): June begins Bunaken Marine Park’s best window. Visibility reaches 30–40 metres in peak conditions. The park entry fee is approximately IDR 150,000 as of 2026; verify current rates with the park authority.

Flores / Komodo: Good conditions. June is a popular month for Komodo liveaboards. Pink Beach and Padar Island are photogenic in the dry season light.

Events in June

Bali Arts Festival — Pesta Kesenian Bali (runs entire June into early July): Held at Taman Budaya Art Centre (Werdi Budaya) in Denpasar. The month-long festival opens with a grand parade along Jalan Sudirman — one of the best free street spectacles in Bali. Events include Kecak and Legong dance performances, gamelan competitions, craft exhibitions, and Barong processions. Most events are free; some evening performances require tickets from approximately IDR 50,000–150,000 as of 2026. Check the official programme at disbud.baliprov.go.id for the current year’s schedule.

Dragon Boat Festival (Chinese communities, date varies Jun–Jul): Celebrated in Manado, Medan, and Bangka Island with dragon boat races. Low-key but colourful.

School holiday peak (mid-late June): Indonesian school holidays typically begin in late June, creating a surge in domestic travel to Bali and Yogyakarta. Prices for budget accommodation rise. Book ahead.
