Lovina is the name given to a string of fishing villages along north Bali’s coast - Pemaron, Tukad Mungga, Anturan, Banyualit, Kalibukbuk, and Temukus - which collectively form the island’s main northern resort area. Kalibukbuk is the centre, with the highest concentration of hotels, restaurants, and the departure point for the dolphin boats.
The atmosphere here is categorically different from south Bali: quieter streets, fewer vendors, a slower pace, and prices at roughly half the south Bali equivalent. For visitors who find Kuta or Seminyak too crowded, Lovina offers easy access to north Bali’s temples, hot springs, and mountains at significantly lower cost.
Kalibukbuk: the central village
Kalibukbuk is Lovina’s hub - a small town grid with the main beach road, restaurants, diving operators, and the main concentration of guesthouses.

Day trips and activities from Lovina
Banjar Hot Springs (Air Panas Banjar): Natural hot spring pools in a Hindu temple complex 10 kilometres west of Lovina. Entry IDR 30,000; open 08:00–18:00. The water temperature is approximately 38°C. A popular afternoon outing.
Gitgit Waterfall: One of Bali’s most accessible waterfalls - 40 metres high, reached by a 10-minute walk from the parking area. Entry IDR 10,000 (subject to change). Located 12 kilometres south of Singaraja on the mountain road to Bedugul.
Pura Pulaki and West Bali National Park: The temple at Pulaki, 30 kilometres west of Lovina, is famous for its resident macaque colony. Bali Barat National Park (West Bali National Park) begins beyond - the only place in the world to see the critically endangered Bali starling (Jalak Bali) in its natural habitat.
Diving and snorkelling: Lovina’s coral reefs suffered significant bleaching events in 1998 and 2016. Snorkelling directly offshore is less impressive than Amed or the Gili Islands. However, dive operators in Lovina do run trips to better sites further along the coast - worth asking which sites they are currently using before booking.
