Senggigi is Lombok’s original tourist resort area - a 10-kilometre stretch of bay facing west across the Lombok Strait toward Bali. The view from Senggigi at sunset, with Bali’s Mount Agung rising above the horizon, is one of the most photographed in Indonesia. The town is quieter than it was in the early 2000s (Lombok’s tourism centre has partly shifted south to Kuta), but Senggigi remains the most convenient base for visitors arriving at Lombok Airport or wanting easy access to the Gili Islands.

Main Senggigi beach area
The central stretch of Senggigi beach, around the Pasar Seni (craft market) and the main junction, is the busiest section with most restaurants, money changers, and accommodation options accessible on foot.

The Oberoi Beach Resort, Lombok - The Oberoi group’s Lombok property, on Medana Beach near Tanjung, roughly 40 minutes’ drive north of Senggigi centre. Pavilions and villas, some with private pools. Rates from roughly USD 210–320 per night (check live rates). The most private and quiet option on this coast, but isolated with few restaurants nearby.
North Senggigi: quieter bays
The coast north of Senggigi toward Mangsit is a series of smaller bays, progressively quieter as you move further from the main town. The road winds through coconut groves and fishing villages, and the beaches here - particularly Mangsit beach - are often deserted.
For visitors who want the Senggigi area but find the main town too noisy, staying in Mangsit (3–4 kilometres north) is an option. You need a scooter or driver to reach restaurants and services, but the setting is significantly quieter.

Practical notes
Gili Islands access: Fast boats from Bangsal harbour (20 minutes north of Senggigi) run daily to the Gili Islands. Departures for Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno typically run 08:00–16:00. Tickets from IDR 150,000–250,000 per person per trip.
Food scene: Senggigi’s restaurant strip is along Jalan Raya Senggigi. The best local food is at the warungs on the inland side - Warung Bule and several unnamed local spots do Lombok staples (ayam taliwang, plecing kangkung) for IDR 25,000–50,000. The international restaurants near the beach are convenient but more expensive.
Safety: Senggigi is generally safe. The beach at night is poorly lit - take care on the sand after dark. Motorcycle taxi (ojek) drivers at the main junction can be persistent - a firm but polite ‘sudah’ (already/no thanks) is usually sufficient.
