Best Hotels in Sanur: Where to Stay in Bali's Quietest Beach Town

· 5 min read City Guide
Wooden beach cottage on Sanur Beach shore, Bali, Indonesia

Sanur sits on Bali’s southeast coast, buffered from the Indian Ocean swell by an offshore reef that keeps the water calm year-round. That reef is the defining fact about Sanur: it makes the beach safe for children and snorkellers, but limits surf to the far end of the bay during swell season. The town is spread along a 4-kilometre beachfront path — one of the few in Bali where you can actually walk from hotel to restaurant without a scooter.

Areas of Sanur: Understanding the Layout

North Sanur (near Jalan Danau Tamblingan) is where most of the restaurants, warungs, cafes, and boutiques sit. The main hotel strip runs parallel to the beach road. Staying here puts everything within walking distance.

Central Sanur sits around the main jetty (Pelabuhan Sanur) — the departure point for fast boats to Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida. Convenient if you plan island-hopping.

South Sanur has fewer tourists and a more local character. Quieter at night. Several good mid-range properties are located here at lower rates than the north.

Budget Hotels in Sanur (Under IDR 500,000 / ~USD 30 per night)

Santai Hotel

A clean, straightforward guesthouse in central Sanur. Rooms are simple with air conditioning and hot water. Small pool. Close to the beach path and several good warungs. Popular with longer-stay travellers who want a reliable base.

Price: Approximately IDR 280,000–420,000 per night as of 2026

La Taverna Bali Hotel

A Sanur institution — basic rooms on the beach path that have been operating for decades. Not luxurious, but the location is excellent and breakfast is included. Better than the price suggests for location alone.

Price: From approximately IDR 350,000 per night as of 2026

Flashbacks Sanur

A small guesthouse with a pool and a loyal repeat clientele. Run by a long-term expat and known for its social atmosphere. The café on-site is genuinely good for breakfast. Slightly off the main tourist strip but a 5-minute walk to the beach.

Price: From approximately IDR 300,000 per night as of 2026

Mid-Range Hotels in Sanur (IDR 700,000–2,500,000 / ~USD 45–155 per night)

Segara Village Hotel

A beachfront resort in North Sanur with a longer history than most. The grounds are broad, with several pools, beach loungers, and a restaurant that handles all-day dining competently. Rooms vary in age — ask for a recently renovated one. Excellent value for direct beach access.

Price: Approximately IDR 1,200,000–2,000,000 per night as of 2026

Bumi Ayu Bungalows

A boutique property set in a garden compound 200 metres from the beach. Rooms are in individual bungalows with local materials and outdoor bathrooms. Quiet and well-priced for what you get. Popular with couples who prefer privacy over resort amenities.

Price: Approximately IDR 700,000–1,200,000 per night as of 2026

Tandjung Sari Hotel

One of the most storied hotels in Sanur — a Balinese-style compound of individually decorated cottages set in lush gardens along the beach. It opened in the 1960s and has retained its character. Service is attentive and personal. A strong choice for those who want history and atmosphere over chain-hotel consistency.

Price: Approximately IDR 2,000,000–3,500,000 per night as of 2026

Puri Santrian Sanur

A large beachfront property with multiple pools and direct beach access. Better suited to families than couples — the facilities are extensive and the pool area is large enough not to feel crowded. The beach frontage is some of the best in Sanur.

Price: Approximately IDR 1,500,000–2,500,000 per night as of 2026

Luxury Hotels in Sanur (IDR 3,000,000+ / ~USD 190+)

The Samaya Sanur

An intimate boutique property with a small number of private villas on the beach. Each villa has its own plunge pool. The emphasis is on privacy and personalised service rather than resort scale. One of Sanur’s most refined stays.

Price: From approximately USD 300 per night as of 2026

Grand Inna Bali Beach Hotel

A large landmark property that dates to 1966 — the first international hotel in Bali. The grounds cover several hectares and include multiple pools and a private beach strip. Rooms in the main tower have dated interiors but the location and infrastructure are hard to match at the price.

Price: Approximately IDR 1,800,000–3,000,000 per night as of 2026

Hyatt Regency Bali

At the northern tip of Sanur, the Hyatt offers full resort infrastructure — spa, multiple restaurants, beach access, and a large family pool. Consistently reliable with professional service standards. A safe choice for first-time Bali visitors who want no surprises.

Price: Approximately USD 180–350 per night as of 2026

Getting to Sanur

From Ngurah Rai Airport: Approximately 25–35 minutes by taxi. Official Blue Bird meters run approximately IDR 80,000–110,000 to central Sanur. Grab costs IDR 60,000–90,000 from outside the arrival halls. Avoid unlicensed touts who approach in the terminal — prices are typically 2–3 times higher.

From Kuta/Seminyak: 20–30 minutes by scooter or taxi. A Grab car to Seminyak costs approximately IDR 50,000–70,000 during normal traffic.

From Ubud: 45–60 minutes by taxi or shuttle. Several shuttle companies (Perama, Kura-Kura) run fixed routes for approximately IDR 60,000–80,000 per person.

Practical Notes

Sanur is one of Bali’s easiest towns to navigate without a scooter. The beach path runs the full length of the coast and is flat. Most restaurants, warungs, and shops are on Jalan Danau Tamblingan, parallel to the beach.

The town is significantly calmer than Kuta or Seminyak. Noise from bars and clubs is minimal — most nights are quiet by 11pm. This makes Sanur better for families, older travellers, and anyone who wants early mornings over late nights.

Water visibility off Sanur Beach is typically 3–5 metres — adequate for snorkelling around the reef, with better visibility on the outer reef where dive operators boat out to. If you want to pre-book Sanur snorkelling trips, day tours, or fast boat excursions to Nusa Lembongan, popular slots fill up during the July–August peak.
