Agoda’s analysis of booking patterns across its platform places Indonesia among the strongest performers in Southeast Asian inbound tourism for the first half of 2026. The proximity of Malaysia and Singapore - both connected to Indonesia by frequent short-haul flights and, in the case of Batam and Bintan, by high-speed ferry - explains their dominance as source markets. Travellers from both countries book frequently for long weekends and short breaks.
China’s return as a major source market is significant for Indonesia, particularly Bali. Chinese tourists were among the largest groups of visitors to Bali before 2020, and their return to the top-five rankings signals that outbound Chinese travel to Southeast Asia is approaching pre-pandemic levels.
What This Means for Visitors
The combination of regional and long-haul tourist volume means that popular destinations - Bali, Lombok, the Gili Islands, Yogyakarta, and Komodo - are operating at high capacity through the July–August peak.
