Maumere is the largest town in East Flores, capital of Sikka Regency, and the eastern terminus of the Trans-Flores overland route. It has a functioning airport with connections to Bali and Kupang, a busy port, and a set of accommodation options ranging from dedicated dive resorts on the bay to standard mid-range hotels in the town centre. The town itself was substantially rebuilt after the 1992 earthquake and tsunami; the architecture is functional rather than atmospheric. What draws visitors is either the diving (Maumere Bay has recovering coral systems and a range of dive sites), the Trans-Flores route (Maumere is the logical end point before flying out), or the nearby cultural sites — Sikka village’s Portuguese-colonial Catholic church and the ikat textile tradition of the surrounding villages. Accommodation reflects this mix of divers, overlanders, and cultural tourists.
Maumere Town Centre
Central Maumere, around the main market (Pasar Maumere) and the commercial strip toward the port, has the city’s widest concentration of accommodation and is the most practical base for non-divers.

Guesthouse Beng Goan — long-standing family guesthouse near the town centre with basic rooms, fan cooling, private bathrooms, and an owner who has been guiding Trans-Flores travellers for years. Breakfast included. Approximately IDR 150,000–250,000/night as of 2026. A solid budget base with knowledgeable staff who understand the bus schedules to Ende and Labuan Bajo.
Penginapan Garden — small central guesthouse with fan-cooled rooms and a modest café on-site. Simple but clean, with adequate hot water and a location within walking distance of the main transport connections. From IDR 120,000–200,000/night.
Hotel Gardena — budget town-centre hotel with a mix of fan and air-conditioned rooms at different price points, private bathrooms, and a basic Indonesian breakfast. The air-conditioned rooms represent reasonable value at approximately IDR 250,000–350,000. Popular with domestic Indonesian travellers arriving by ferry.
Mid-Range (IDR 350,000–800,000/night)
Sylvia Hotel Maumere — the most consistently recommended mid-range option in Maumere centre, with clean air-conditioned rooms, reliable hot water, a restaurant, and a reception desk that speaks English and handles tour bookings for Sikka and Koka Beach. Approximately IDR 400,000–700,000/night as of 2026. Useful for those arriving by air from Bali who want a comfortable base without the dive-resort prices or the distance from the town.
Hotel Pondok Sari — mid-range property in central Maumere with standard rooms, a pool, and a restaurant with a wider Indonesian menu than the average guesthouse. Approximately IDR 350,000–650,000/night. The pool is particularly appreciated by those who’ve been on the road for several days on the Trans-Flores route.
Hotel Sao Wisata — beachside mid-range option northeast of the town centre toward Wodong Beach, with rooms facing the bay. Not as central as Sylvia or Pondok Sari, but the sea view and quieter setting make it worth the short taxi ride from town. Approximately IDR 400,000–700,000/night as of 2026.
Bay and Coastal Dive Resorts
For divers, accommodation is structured around boat access to Maumere Bay’s dive sites rather than town proximity.
Sea World Club — the original and most established dive resort in Maumere, located on the coast road approximately 8 km east of town. Bungalow-style accommodation ranges from standard fan rooms to better sea-view options, all organized around the dive operation. Two-dive packages run approximately USD 60–80 as of 2026; accommodation starts from approximately USD 30 per night. The reef access here includes wall dives and sloping reef systems at sites like Babi Island. Not flashy, but functional for a dedicated dive trip.
Ankermi Dive Lodge — a smaller, more intimate dive operation near Sea World Club with fewer rooms and a more personalized service model. Popular with repeat-visit divers who know Maumere Bay well. Approximately USD 40–60/night with dive packages available. Book directly — the property has limited online presence.
What to Know Before You Book
Duration: Most visitors spend one to two nights in Maumere. If diving, three nights gives time for 6–8 dives across multiple sites. If solely transiting, one night before a morning flight to Bali is sufficient.
Outbound flights: Maumere’s Frans Seda Airport (MOF) has departures to Bali typically in the morning. Check schedules and book well ahead — flights are operated by Wings Air and Garuda on limited frequencies. In peak season (July–August), seats book out early.
Sikka village day trip: The historic Gereja Sikka Portuguese-colonial church is 26 km south of town, about 45 minutes by motorcycle or chartered vehicle. Most mid-range hotels can arrange transport. No formal entry fee; open outside service hours.
