Jimbaran is one of Bali’s most architecturally concentrated luxury resort zones - a short stretch of the Bukit peninsula’s western edge where a cluster of international five-star brands built their Bali flagships on dramatic limestone cliffs above the Indian Ocean. Below the cliffs, Jimbaran Bay’s crescent beach shelters calmer water than Kuta and a famous strip of seafood warungs that draws visitors from across southern Bali for sunset dining.
The key accommodation decision in Jimbaran is whether you want the cliff experience or the bay experience. Cliffside properties offer spectacular ocean views and seclusion; beachfront and hillside hotels offer easier access to town, the beach, and the seafood strip.
Cliffside Resorts: The Bukit’s Best Address
The western edge of the Bukit peninsula drops sharply to the Indian Ocean, and a handful of resorts have built directly on these cliffs - offering infinity pools that appear to spill into the sea, and sunrise-to-sunset ocean panoramas.
Budget (relative) - Upper Hillside (IDR 500,000–900,000/night)
De Sawah Villa and Bungalow - a modest hilltop property away from the main cliff strip. Simple rooms and a small pool, but positioned to catch Jimbaran-area sunsets. Approximately IDR 500,000–750,000/night. Primarily serves guests who want proximity to the seafood beach without luxury pricing. No cliffside views, but solid value.
Nusa Dua Retreat (upper Jimbaran hillside) - small boutique guesthouse with 10 rooms and a garden pool. Rates approximately IDR 600,000–900,000/night. Close enough to Jimbaran Bay by scooter (5 minutes), far enough from the main resort corridor to be quieter.
Mid-Range - Jimbaran Hillside (IDR 900,000–3,000,000/night)
Karma Jimbaran - 35 private villas cascading down the Bukit hillside with Indian Ocean views. Plunge pools, a spa, and a beach shuttle. Rates from approximately IDR 1,500,000–4,000,000/night for a villa. Not the big international brand, but one of the most complete mid-to-upper Jimbaran experiences. The cliff views match the luxury properties without the full luxury premium.
InterContinental Bali Resort (Jimbaran Bay, beach side) - 425 rooms on the bay, technically at the northern end of Jimbaran rather than the cliff zone. Multiple pools, a wide beach, and consistent service. Rates approximately IDR 2,000,000–5,000,000/night. This is Jimbaran’s benchmark business-class resort - suited to travellers who want a large, reliable international property without paying the top-tier rates.
Luxury - Cliffside Jimbaran (from USD 400/night)
Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay - the original landmark property on this stretch: 147 private villas, each with its own pool, on a hillside above Jimbaran Bay. The JimBAR, multiple restaurants, COMO Shambhala-quality spa, and a resident dive and surf school. Rates start approximately USD 400–600/night for entry-level villas, rising significantly for cliff-edge or ocean-view categories. Widely regarded as one of Asia’s best resort hotels.
The Kempinski Hotel Bali - 75 villa-style suites and residences on the Bukit cliffside. Lower profile than the Four Seasons but often cited as offering comparable service with slightly more intimate scale. Rates approximately USD 350–550/night. The Cliffside restaurant has some of the most dramatic dining views in Bali.
Bulgari Resort Bali - LVMH’s Bali property: 59 villas on the steepest section of the Bukit cliff. The most design-forward resort in the area - black lava stone, infinity pools over the Indian Ocean, and a private beach accessed by funicular. Rates from approximately USD 500–900/night. Suited to guests prioritising design and exclusivity over family amenities or socialising.
Jimbaran Bay: Beachfront and Village-Area Hotels
Below the cliff zone, Jimbaran Bay stretches north toward Kelan and the airport. This stretch is dominated by the seafood warungs, a fish market, and a mix of mid-range guesthouses and smaller beach hotels.
Budget - Bay Area (IDR 200,000–500,000/night)
Pondok Anyar Inn - long-running family guesthouse on a lane behind the seafood strip. Basic rooms, reliable air conditioning, friendly staff. Approximately IDR 200,000–350,000/night. No pool, but you can walk to the beach in 5 minutes and the seafood warung strip is on your doorstep. Best for budget travellers who care more about location than facilities.
Jimbaran Permata Bungalows - 12-room property in a garden setting, 300 metres from the beach. Rates approximately IDR 250,000–450,000/night. Breakfast is usually included. Simple but clean, and conveniently placed for both the beach and the cluster of local warungs along the seafood strip.
Mid-Range - Bay-Adjacent (IDR 600,000–2,000,000/night)
Jimbaran Puri (formerly Jimbaran Puri Bali) - 41 cottage-style accommodations in a garden that opens directly onto Jimbaran Beach. Good facilities, a pool, and beach-house character. Rates approximately IDR 1,000,000–2,500,000/night. A reasonable choice for guests who want the beachfront location without full luxury pricing.
Ayana Resort Bali - technically spanning the cliff-to-bay zone with 291 rooms and villas across several tiers. The famous Rock Bar is here (a cocktail bar built on a natural rock formation over the ocean). Rates for standard rooms approximately IDR 1,800,000–3,500,000/night; villas higher. One of Bali’s most recognisable resort brands, particularly popular for its sunset bar and ocean-facing infinity pools.
Getting Here: Ngurah Rai Airport to Jimbaran
Jimbaran is Bali’s closest major resort area to Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) - approximately 10–15 km south depending on the exact hotel location.
- Grab or Gojek - the most reliable option. From the airport, expect approximately IDR 30,000–60,000 for the journey (20–30 minutes). The pickup zone for app taxis is on the upper level of the airport car park - follow signs for “Online Transportation.”
- Metered taxi - Blue Bird and other licensed taxis operate from the official rank outside arrivals. Metered fares to Jimbaran run approximately IDR 80,000–120,000. Use only metered or app-based taxis; avoid unofficial touts.
- Hotel transfer - most mid-range and luxury Jimbaran properties offer airport pickup. Rates typically IDR 200,000–400,000 depending on property tier. Easier if arriving with heavy luggage or late at night.
Journey time is typically 20–30 minutes under normal conditions but can stretch to 45–60 minutes during peak congestion on the airport bypass road (particularly 3–7pm weekdays).
Getting Around Jimbaran
Jimbaran is not a walkable resort for most purposes - the cliff properties, bay beach, and seafood strip are spread across several kilometres of hilly roads. Grab and Gojek work well for day-to-day movement; a ride from the cliff resorts to the seafood beach typically runs IDR 20,000–40,000.
Scooter rental (approximately IDR 60,000–80,000/day) is practical for those comfortable with Bali roads. The route between Jimbaran and Kuta/Seminyak is straightforward via the bypass road.

- Mid-range bay properties are generally available with 1–2 weeks’ notice.
- Direct booking at the InterContinental or Ayana is often 10–15% cheaper than OTA rates for longer stays.
