Qantas and its low-cost subsidiary Jetstar have announced a significant expansion of their Australia-Indonesia network, adding new routes that will give Australian travellers more direct options to reach Bali and Jakarta over the coming months.

What’s launching and when

The centrepiece of the announcement is a new daily Qantas service between Perth and Jakarta, scheduled to begin on 14 December 2026. Perth is Australia’s nearest major city to Indonesia and has long had a case for direct Jakarta connectivity. The new route fills a gap that previously required a connection through Bali or Singapore.

Jetstar is preparing to launch a daily service between Western Sydney International Airport and Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport from 15 March 2027. Western Sydney International, which opened in 2026, adds a second Sydney-area gateway for Bali-bound travellers in western Sydney and the Blue Mountains who currently travel to Kingsford Smith.

Qantas is also restoring its Brisbane-Bali service, adding a third city to the airline’s Indonesia coverage alongside its existing Sydney-Bali and Sydney-Jakarta flights.

Context: Australia is Bali’s biggest market

Australia accounts for roughly one in four international visitors to Bali, making it by far the island’s most important source market. The expansion reflects continued strong demand from Australian travellers, a trend that has persisted through 2026 despite global geopolitical uncertainties affecting some other origin markets.

The Perth-Jakarta route is particularly significant for Western Australian travellers who have historically had limited direct access to Indonesia’s capital. Jakarta is the gateway for Java itineraries and cultural trips to Yogyakarta and Borobudur that don’t route through Bali.

Other new routes to Indonesia this month

October also brings new international connectivity from other directions. Batik Air begins its Subang-Bali service on 20 October, operating four times weekly from Kuala Lumpur’s Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport. Starlux Airlines launched direct flights between Taipei Taoyuan International Airport and Bali from 1 October, opening Taiwan as a new non-stop origin.

Garuda Indonesia is reactivating its Bali-Papua (Sorong) domestic service from 25 October through March 2027, supporting access to Raja Ampat for the peak diving season.
