One of Asia’s most compelling photography festivals is currently underway in Bali: FOTO Bali Festival 2026 runs from 3 June to 12 July 2026 at Nuanu Creative City in the south of the island, and entry remains free for most public programmes.

The 2026 edition features 36 artists from 24 countries gathered around the theme Afterimage — an exploration of memory, persistence and what remains after the shutter has closed. Works span traditional photography, multimedia installations, public projections and photobooks, spread across several distinct spaces at Nuanu: the Labyrinth Art Gallery, the Labyrinth Dome, a Japanese Garden, and the outdoor Block 42 venue.

Beyond the exhibitions, the festival runs a rich public programme of talks, workshops and portfolio reviews touching on funding strategy, documentary storytelling, cultural archiving, analogue processes and international distribution. Tickets for individual workshops vary; the main exhibitions are free to enter.

Nuanu Creative City sits in the Pererenan area, near Canggu — a neighbourhood well known for its café culture and easy access to both surf breaks and Ubud. The venue is most easily reached from Canggu by ride-hailing app (approximately 10 minutes) or from central Seminyak (15–20 minutes).

Bali recorded 553,328 foreign visitor arrivals in April 2026, a 17 per cent increase month-on-month, and the island’s cultural calendar has expanded significantly this year to meet visitor interest beyond beaches. Comedy in Canggu, jazz in Legian and photography at Nuanu now sit alongside the traditional ceremonies and rice terraces that have always drawn travellers.

Practical notes for festival visitors: Indonesia requires a Visa on Arrival (USD 35, valid 30 days) for most Western nationalities, obtainable on arrival at Ngurah Rai Airport. Since June 2025, a digital arrival card must also be completed before landing via the All Indonesia app or web portal. Our Indonesia travel costs guide covers day-to-day budgeting on the island.

FOTO Bali closes on 12 July — with just two weeks remaining, we recommend booking accommodation near Canggu or Seminyak soon if you plan to attend.
