Indonesian tourism authorities have issued a health advisory urging visitors to Bali to take precautions against heatstroke as temperatures across the island peak through June and into July. Daytime highs combined with high humidity create conditions that can cause rapid heat exhaustion, particularly for travellers arriving from cooler climates who underestimate the physical toll of extended time outdoors.

The risk is highest between 10:00 and 15:00. Outdoor temple visits, rice-terrace walks in Tegallalang and Jatiluwih, and beach activities should be planned for early morning or late afternoon wherever possible. The advisory specifically flags the first two or three days after arrival as the period of greatest risk, before the body has had time to acclimatise. Medical facilities on the island have reported rising numbers of heat-related admissions in recent weeks.

Standard precautions include drinking at least three litres of water per day, carrying oral rehydration salts, wearing loose light-coloured clothing with adequate UV protection, and seeking shade during peak hours. Visitors with underlying cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, elderly travellers, and young children face the highest risk and should be especially conservative about midday activity.

The advisory does not affect Bali’s status as an open destination. The island continues to welcome arrivals under the standard Indonesia e-VOA scheme — citizens from 97 eligible countries can apply online before travel — and the mandatory 150,000 IDR tourist levy remains in place as usual. The Indonesia visa guide covers e-VOA eligibility and the online application process in full.

For those planning when to visit, the best time to visit Indonesia guide breaks down monthly conditions across Bali and other islands, while the Indonesia health and vaccinations page covers the full range of health considerations for travel to the archipelago.
